Dermatology Certificate Programs for Medical Graduates

The Institute of Dermatology, Laser and Cosmetic Surgery is offering various education programs specializing in Skin Care, Cutaneous Biology and Immunology, Cosmetic Dermatology and Laser Surgery.

Texas Institute of Dermatology, Laser and Cosmetic Surgery offers various dermatology certificate programs for US and International Medical Graduates. These programs include: internship & externship in dermatology, and clinical and research rotations for dermatology residents and dermatology fellows. Short and long term dermatology training programs are also available for international medical graduates.

Clinical & Research Dermatology Fellowship

A Fellow is a post-M.D. trainee who is pursuing further clinical or research training and has successfully completed all of the time and examination requirements.

Texas Institute of Dermatology offers a fellowship training. This is a non-ACGME accredited program. The program is designed for one year and includes training for:

  • Skin Surgery
  • Laser Medicine and Photobiology
  • Hair and Nail Disorders
  • Immunodermatology
  • Cutaneous Biology
  • Cosmetic Dermatology

Fellowship involves clinical and/or research activities depending on candidate’s interest.  Rotations and projects are designed by the mentor.  Other fellowship options are available, but these have to be arranged specifically with a faculty member who has to agree to accept the Fellow.  The fellowship period usually lasts 1 year, and is primarily a one-to-one mentorship with a faculty member. Applicants interested in clinical rotations must have a valid license to practice Medicine by Texas Medical Board. Foreign Medical Graduates may participate in the fellowship program, but they may not have any clinical activities. Limited clinical observorship is available on case by case after consulting the Medical Board

The goal is to position the fellow for a future career as an academic or a practicing physician who is interested in making significant contributions to their field of interest.

In previous years, the fellows were from the U.S., France, Chile, and Mexico.

 

How To Apply for Dermatology Fellowship: 

  1. The candidate should send an email to [email protected]  indicating the type of training and career goal the candidate is seeking.
  2. The candidate must supply a letter from the postgraduate specialty college in their home country (with notarized translation if applicable) indicating that they have met the training requirements as an M.D.
  3. The candidate must provide proof (original with notarized translation if applicable) of successful completion of all examinations listed in the above letter.
  4. A copy of Texas Medical Board License, if applicable.
  5. Those candidates who do not meet the above Fellowship Eligibility criteria, but have sufficient post-graduate training to warrant admission to a post-graduate program will be designated as “Observer.”  Supporting documentation would include all specialty training certificates and a letter from the applicant’s specialty college.

Ghohestani International Dermatology Fellowship in Dermatology for Young Dermatologists:

Jefferson Center for International Dermatology at Thomas Jefferson University and The Texas Institute of Dermatology jointly announce the availability of fellowships for young academic dermatologists for a short term visit to Philadelphia, PA and San Antonio, TX. The stipend supports housing and intercity transportation in the USA.

This fellowship is available to academic dermatologists at the early stages of their career development, interested in basic and clinical research in dermatology. The applicant should be a citizen of a developing country and have proficiency in English.

The deadline for Fall rotation (September – November) is June 1st and for the Spring (April – June) rotation is January 1st.
